Here at Racing Gold, we revel in a challenge.
With access to an amazing range of aeronautical components dating back as far as World War II, our designers are very fortunate to be able to explore creating unusual pieces of art from materials in including graded titanium & weathered aluminium, to name a few.
With staff history linked to restoring Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars, many components we work with today are not as unfamiliar as you might think.
The Jet Fan sculpture.
The pioneering, outstandingly successful, Rolls-Royce RB211 turbofan engine is in our mind (and many others) a work of ART. Engineering ART.
One of the most distinctive parts of this engine were the impressive intake fan blades. Although it is rumoured that these have been carved into various shapes to create interesting sculptures, we believe the beauty is in the raw, original form. By mirror polishing this fantastic, solid titanium blade, we discovered that the working side been peppered with thousands of tiny imperfections created by dust & airborne particles being pulled through the engine. What was even more interesting is the shape of the leading edge which has also been subjected to thousands of hours of flight. Each blade is worn to a slightly different profile. Details of the technicians balancing weights are engraved into the base of each blade. This would be carried out every time the engine has been overhauled. These are marked at the grooved base (known as the Christmas tree) which would slot into the main hub with it’s 32 sister blades. Although the information engraved here is interesting, the grooved area in our sculpture is set into a block of oiled Sapele hardwood. This half teardrop shaped base is then triple contoured by hand to match the complicatedly profiled flange at the base of the fan blade.
The result is a beautiful, stand alone, sculpture that shows off the original shape of this blade. Comments of a nautical look are not uncommon.

Like every car which competes, these pieces are unique. So, while the designs and styles are outlined here, each piece may be slightly different to those in the brochure. Every one will be numbered and come with life histories and certificates of authenticity.
